FAQs

  1. What Size Water Tank Do I Need?
If you are installing your water tank to collect rainwater then you will need to work out your catchment area (roof area) and find out your average annual rainfall. Then use the ‘Rainwater Harvesting Calculator’ link from this page to work out approximately how many litres of water you can catch per year. Obviously, the household water consumption varies considerably for everyone but as a guide, an average family of 4 with a small garden use approximately 280,000 - 300,000 Litres per year for general household use. 2. Can I Collect the Rainwater Off the Roof of My Water Tank?
Yes. Rhino offers Rainsaver Caps that can be inserted around the circumference of the tank roof and the water flows down the roof corrugations, through the Rainsaver Cap screens and into the tank. Unlike other roof harvesting systems, this option allows you to collect the tank roof water AND keep your tank sealed from dust, insects and other vermin. 3. What are Sacrificial Anodes and Why Do I Need Them?
Sacrificial Magnesium Anodes are used to prevent corrosion on your tank. The Magnesium is a weaker metal than the Zincalume or Colobond tank shell, therefore the anode becomes the first defence against corrosion when electrolysis occurs. Correct installation and Rhino’s 5 year maintenance program is therefore imperative to ensure your tank doesn’t rust. See the attached PDF for more information on Cathodic protection.
  4. Can I Get a Rebate for My Water Tank?
There are various rebates and grants available for Water Tanks. See our rebates page for further information.
  5. Are Rhino Tanks Australian Made Water Tanks?
Yes. All Rhino Water Tanks are made in Australia. We use BHP Steel and are the only tank company that fabricate our reinforced tank liners in our own factory. This means we can control the quality of the product from manufacturing to installation.
  6. Is the Polyethylene Liner Safe for Drinking Water?
Yes. Our Polyethylene liner passes all the Australian and International standards for potable liners. Polyethylene and Metallocene are generally recognised as the most stable and safest food grade materials available. See the tank liners page for more information on our Hydrashield 1000 liner.
  7. Are the Tank Trusses Hot Dipped Galvanised for Added Strength and Durability?
All the trusses used in the installation of a Rhino Water Tank are hot dipped galvanised ensuring protection from condensation corrosion.
