Fire Protection Tanks

Steel tanks are the most fire resistant on the market and have proven to maintain their structural integrity and retain water during and after vigorous testing in simulated fire situations

CSIRO/Bushfire CRC research

Rhino Water Tanks provide a number of alternatives to suit your Fire Protection needs whether it be simply adding an extra fire coupling on one of your outlets during a standard Rhino Tank installation, a designated water tank specifically for protecting your residence in a fire prone area, or a commercial fire tank with industry standard fittings specifically for static water storage to operate fire sprinkler systems or commercial fire pumps.
Regulations and standards vary from state to state so it is important to contact your local fire authority or shire to clarify you specific needs.

RHINO ‘SAFEGUARD’ FIRE TANK SERIES

This NEW development is unique to Rhino Water Tanks and has been developed in response to the growing need to ensure your water tank has the best chance of surviving a bushfire. The dimensions and capacities are the same as our standard range; however our NEW dual-skin tank has a 130mm air gap between the existing tank wall and an outer shell to help protect the tank proper and the liner.

Another significant feature is that the outlets are actually fitted through the bottom of the tank liner and plumbed underground to prevent damage during a fire front. An additional Galvanized Valve Access Box is also fitted to enclose the valves (taps) at their surface exit point, as well as a stainless steel riser with relevant Fire Coupling fitted. Another feature is a roof-mounted sprinkler system that is internally plumbed and matched to the diameter of the tank roof. Due to their unique nature, each RHINO ‘SAFEGUARD’ TANK will be quoted individually upon request.

This video on the right is a case study where a Rhino Safeguard Tank has been installed as part of a complete fire protection system including underground plumbing, fire hose reel, sprinkler systems and a pump shed.

DESIGNATED FIRE PROTECTION TANK

In some fire prone areas, residents, sporting clubs or schools may choose to (or may be required to) have a designated fire tank which is always full and ready for use in an emergency. The specifications for these tanks may vary considerably such as larger outlets, anti-vortex controls and possibly safety ladders. Rhino’s full range of water tanks can be customised to suit almost any situation so if you are not sure contact 1800 632 410 or email sales at rhinotanks dot com dot au with any questions or to obtain a specific quote.

FIRE FIGHTING COUPLING ON STANDARD RHINO TANK

Many shires and municipalities throughout Australia now require that residences have a certain capacity of water designated for emergency fire fighting purposes. This can be easily achieved during a standard Rhino Tank installation. All our tanks come standard with 2 x 50mm outlets and ball valves so we simply allocate one outlet for household use and the other has a State/Territory-specific Fire Fighting coupling fitted. The outlets are cut in on the day of installation so they can be placed wherever the customer requires them to meet their fire water storage requirements.

COMMERCIAL FIRE TANK

It is now common practice for most large buildings to provide a Static Water Supply (SWS) in a designated water tank on site. As previously stated, our standard corrugated range of tanks can be customised to suit almost any situation and meet all relevant Australian standards. Alternatively, we can design and manufacture Galvanized Steel Flat Panel Tanks with industrial standard liners to satisfy your SWS needs. It is essential that you provide us with ALL RELEVANT specification requirements upon your initial enquiry. More information about our Commercial Tanks can be found under the ‘Water Tanks’ menu.
